June 3, 2008 Utah Valley University announced on Tuesday a plan to add both men's and women's tennis to its list of NCAA Division I programs, taking the total number at the university to 17. The process of adding both programs is expected to take a total of three years with the men's program set to begin competition in the fall of the 2009-10 season and the women's program slated to start competing in the fall of the 2010-11 season. "The addition of tennis to our athletics department is important for our progress as a Division I institution," Utah Valley Director of Athletics, Mike Jacobsen said. "We're excited to be able to offer more student-athletes an opportunity to compete and get a quality education here at UVU." A job description and listing will be available within the next 60 days for a Director of Tennis. Jacobsen said he would like to have the position filled by September 1st, after which more information about facilities, scheduling, recruitment, and other aspects regarding the program will be released. |
