Devra Vierkant
Cross Country/Track
Inducted in 2006


Devra Vierkant was a seven time NJCAA All-American at Utah Valley State in Cross Country and Track. She was also an outstanding student, compiling a 3.9 grade-point average. She was named UVSC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2000, and also earned the Betty Jo Graber Award, which goes to the top student-athlete in the NJCAA.

Vierkant had a stellar running career at UVSC. She was the national champion in the 3000 meters in 2000, and was second in the nation in the 5000 meters and third in the 1500 meters. She also finished as the national runner-up in the1997 NJCAA Cross Country Championships. She was a two-time region champion in the 3000 and 5000 meter races. She won a host of other honors at various duals and meets throughout her career at UVSC.

Before coming to UVSC, Vierkant lettered in cross country at nearby Orem High School. After leaving the Wolverine lair she ran for Brigham Young University. In 2002 she posted BYU's best 10,000 meter time for the year, and the second best 5,000 meter time. She finished first in the mile run at the Boise State Invitational, first in the 3000 meter run at the Illinois Invitational, and helped her distance medley relay team take first at the Mountain West Conference Championships. She finished 11 th in the 5,000 meters at the indoor nationals, in spite of tripping and falling in the event. She also qualified for the outdoor nationals in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, but did not compete because of injuries. She earned her BS degree in business management with an emphasis in finance.

Vierkant is currently working at INVESTools as a personal coach, teaching people how to trade stocks and options. She has also continued to compete in her post-collegiate days. In October of 2005, she shocked the marathon world by winning the St. George Marathon in her first time out. She posted a 2:42:58 time to beat the runner-up by almost six minutes.

Devra and her husband David reside in Provo. Their son, Matthew, is a wrestler, and placed third at state for middle school wrestlers.
