Wolverines Compete in First Outdoor Meet

TUCSON, Ariz. - In its first outdoor meet of the year, Utah Valley track got off to a good start at the Dave Murray Distance Carnival at the Willie Williams Classic hosted by the University of Arizona. Mariama Salifu finished ninth for the Wolverines in the 200 meters, posting a time of 25.07. The womens 1500 meters run had four UV runners finish consecutively with Chelsea Loss leading the way with a time of 4:43.88. Mary Nothum, Karinne Bentley and Mel Baird followed Loss. Trisha Wright had a top-10 finish in the 5000 meters, finishing eighth with a time of 18:18.11 while Amanda Peart ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.77, good for seventh place. Ashley Timo led UV jumpers in the long jump with a leap of 5.31 meters. Nadine Russell was tops among Wolverine women throwers, finishing 14th in the shot put and 17th in the hammer throw. On the men's side, Matt Echols had the Wolverines top time in the 200 meters, running it in 22.58 seconds. Danny Moody finished in the top-15 in the 500 meters with a time of 15:37.66 while Andrew Graham finished the 400 meter hurdles in 54.66, ninth in the meet. Chase Englestead had a second-place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing second. In the field events, Jared Ray finished eighth in the pole vault with a jump of 4.65 meters. The Wolverines will wrap up their events at the Arizona meet on Saturday. |
