PROVO, Utah - Five Utah Valley athletes finished first in their respective events as the Wolverines had a good outing at the BYU Cougar Invitational. Although no school records fell, several athletes came close to breaking school marks. Mariama Salifu finished first in both the 100 and 200 meter races. Salifu was the Wolverines' only athlete to finish in the top five in multiple events. Ashley Timo (high jump), Alise Lindsey (800 meters) along with Chase Englestead (1,500 meters) also finished first in an event. Salifu ran the 100 meters with a time of 11.87 seconds. In the 200 meters, Salifu fell just short of her own school record with a time of 24.34 in the race. Timo, who holds the school record in the indoor high jump, was the only jumper to clear 1.65 meters as she won the event outright. Lindsey ran the 800 meters in 2:15.06. Englestead was the only athlete in the men's 1,500 meter run to finish with a sub-four minute time. He finished with a time of 3:56.34, closing in on the school record time. In another notable performance, Chelsea Baker finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.75. Baker was less than half a second behind the school record time of 57.39. The Wolverines will next compete next week in a three-day event hosted by UCLA in Westwood, Calif. |
