Utah Valley to Host Track & Field Championships

May 8, 2008

Utah Valley will host the inaugural National Athletic Conference 2008 Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Brigham Young University's Clarence Robison Track Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Competing against UVU will be Cal State Bakersfield, Houston Baptist, NJIT, and San Francisco. The schedule of events along with a list of athletes competing in each event and live results can be found at www.runnercard.com.

"We're very excited to be hosting the tournament this weekend," UV head coach Scott Houle said. "It's a great opportunity for the community to come out and see some very good competition for a championship. We really appreciate BYU for letting us use their fantastic facilities, and it will be great for our kids to have their family and friends in attendance."

The Wolverine's top senior sprinter Mariama Salifu will be looking to win the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Other women looking for gold will be Chelsea Baker in the 400-meter dash, Mary Nothum in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Alise Lindsey in the 800-meter run, Karinne Bentley in the 1500-meter run, and Ashley Timo in the high jump.

On the men's side, Utah Valley expects big things from sophomore Sean Dyreng in a very good field in the 800-meter run. Other leading contributors include Brandon Lovell in the 400-meter dash, Andrew Graham in the 400-meter hurdles, Danny Moody in the 5000-meter run, and Jared Ray in the pole vault.

Start times are subject to change. Award ceremonies will immediately followed the conclusion of Saturday's events (approximately 1:15 p.m.). Fans can visit the Web site for all times, updates, scores, and other information. Admission to the public is free.
