BEAUMONT, Calif. - Seniors Ashley MacKay and Echo Thatcher both shot an opening round 83 at the UC Riverside Lady Braveheart Challenge at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calfornia.

It's the first tournament of the spring and the first chance for the Wolverine golfers to actually get out on the course because of this particularly cold Utah winter.

"Considering that yesterday was our first real chance to get out and play 18 holes...we played okay. We can play better and we will. We're definitely stronger today than we were a year ago," said head coach Denise Larson.

The final round will be played Tuesday morning.
