Wolverines Beat Utah State 2-1

Box Score

Logan, UT- The Utah Valley State soccer team earned its biggest win of the season on Friday when they beat Utah State 2-1 in Logan. The win ups the Wolverines record to 5-7-1 with a Saturday home game at 11 a.m. against North Dakota State looming.

"I felt an added confidence from the team today prior to the game," Utah Valley State coach Brent Anderson said. "I haven't felt that before. They came out with something to prove and did a great job."

The win also had a little extra meaning for Anderson since he was an assistant at Utah State for eight years.

"The girls said they won this for me," Anderson said. "I am appreciative of that but I am glad they won the game for themselves. This gives us an opportunity to get back to .500"

The scoring started when Courtney Robbins scored her first of two goals in the third minute. After dribbling across the top of the box, Robbins fired her shot into the lower left corner of the net.

Utah State tied the game in the 11th minute when Erin Salmon headed in a ball from 14-yards out off a free kick.

Robbins tallied the game-winning goal in the 64th minute when she fired a shot from inside the far left side of the box. The ball then landed into the right corner of the net for the goal.

"The great thing about today was that we found a good mix in our attack," Anderson said. "We were organized in the back and we were able to get enough numbers forward in the attack. It was a nice mix. Our backs in general did a good job. I thought we out played them in the midfield in the second half. Kara Adams and Chelsea Stone really did a good job there."

Anderson added that he was also pleased with how his defense prevented Utah State's outside midfielders from getting involved in the attack.
