Eastern Washington Tops Utah Valley

Nov. 4, 2007

Box Score

CHENEY, Wash. - Utah Valley fired nine shots but were unable to find the net as Eastern Washington scored once in the first half and twice in the second to beat the Wolverines 3-0 in UV's regular season finale.

"It was a good game to get us prepared for our conference tournament," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "Eastern Washington is a great team and we played well early against them."

After the loss, the Wolverines will now focus on the United Soccer Conference tournament which will take place next week in Orem. Utah Valley has already clinched the second seed in the conference tournament and will have a first round bye.

Eastern Washington got out of the gate quickly, scoring in the seventh minute when Lauryn Koelzer took a feed from Cyeeta Mott and found the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines hung tough in the first half, firing off six shots, two on goals to put pressure on Eastern Washington.

"We had difficulty in our attacking third," Anderson said. "Our defense played fairly well. We made a few mistakes and Eastern Washington took advantage of each one."

EWU controlled the second half with Mott scoring twice as the Eagles out-shot the Wolverines 8-3 in the second stanza. Utah Valley was led by Lauren Bluth's three shots. Jenni Clough added two in the game.

The Wolverines will next play Friday at 1 p.m. at Utah Valley's Clyde Field when they will take on the winner of a quarterfinal match featuring South Carolina State and NJIT.

"The team is excited to get back training for our conference tournament," Anderson said.
