USC Tournament Action Begins Against NJIT

OREM, Utah - After enjoying a first-round bye, Utah Valley will set its sights on New Jersey Institute of Technology as the Wolverines and Highlanders will face off in United Soccer Conference Tournament semifinal action. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Friday afternoon. NJIT advanced to the semis after defeating South Carolina State in its quarterfinal match. The Highlanders have won four of their last five games while posting a 4-0-1 record during that stretch. The Wolverines enjoyed a 6-0 victory over NJIT last year, which was the first time the two teams had met. The Highlanders and Wolverines played early in the season in Orem last year. The two teams met again this season in conference play with Utah Valley cruising to a 5-0 win over NJIT. The Wolverines have enjoyed an 11-0 goal advantage in the two matches played between the teams. The winner of the Utah Valley/NJIT semifinal match will advance to the tournament finals on Sunday at noon. If the Wolverines were to advance, it would mark the second time in UV's three-year history of playing with the USC that the Wolverines have advanced to the conference finals. Utah Valley finished second in the 2005 tournament In the other semifinal match, top-seeded Longwood University will play fourth-seeded Howard, which beat Delaware State 3-0 in quarterfinal action. The winner of that match will also advance to the USC tournament final on Sunday. |
